The NGO National Action Front (NNAF) is one of the biggest networks of development in the Island wide. Presently, it has a membership of 18 District Consortia (DCs) including NGO Forum for Plantation Organizations. Member organizations in these consortia numbering 330 NGOs and about 3300 CBOs implement programmes. The majority of these development activists are based in District, villages and they are engaged in community-based programmes. In 1995, 13 DCs consisting of 130 NGOs formed the NNAF, and was registered in 1996 under the Social Services Act. And in 1916 registered under the government NGO Secretariat. NGOs working on poverty alleviation, women, children, differently abled, environment, credit groups, farmer groups and other sectoral groups are a few to note of the diverse membership of the NNAF. Both professionals and nonprofessionals run these groups.
